Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at tailoredtailsgrooming12754@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We accept cash, card, check or Venmo

Proof of an up-to-date Rabies vaccination is required for all dogs before booking can be confirmed. You can upload proof directly on our Intake Form.

We strictly practice "humanity over vanity." If a coat is severely matted to the point where brushing would cause pain or skin damage, we will safely humanely shave the matting and work on a maintenance plan for coat regrowth.

No, Tailored Tails is strictly a dog-only salon! Keeping our space dog-focused ensures a calm, low-stress environment for every pup.

For safety and focus, owners do not stay in the salon during the appointment. Dogs are much calmer and less distracted when they can focus entirely on their groomer.

Policies and Procedures

I want every pup (and owner!) to feel comfortable, informed, and excited for their visit. Here’s everything you need to know to help your appointment go smoothly!

Vaccinations and Vet Visits

  • Mandatory Rabies Proof: For everyone's safety, all dogs must have a current rabies vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian. Proof of vaccination must be provided when booking your appointment and must be an official rabies certificate showing the date administered and expiration date. Handwritten records, breeder records, or self-administered vaccinations are not accepted.

  • 48-Hour Vet Window: No veterinary visits or vaccinations are permitted within 48 hours of your grooming appointment. This ensures your pup isn't sore or at risk of adverse reactions while on the table.

  • Non-Compliance: If it is discovered that your dog had a vet visit or vaccination within the 48-hour window, the appointment will be cancelled for safety. A 50% cancellation fee will apply, which must be paid before rebooking.

Appointments

Tailored Tails is a one-on-one grooming salon, so your appointment time is reserved strictly for your dog.

  • Arriving On Time: Please arrive right at your scheduled time. Because we run 1-on-1, arriving early may disrupt the previous pup's spa time. If you arrive early, please text first!

  • Lateness: Arriving 10+ minutes late will count as a late cancellation and will need to be rescheduled.

  • Confirmation Rules: You will receive a confirmation text 3 days before your appointment. Please make sure to confirm—unconfirmed appointments may be released to clients on our waitlist.

  • Pick-Up Notice: You will receive a 30-minute pickup notice text. Late pickups (over 10 minutes) will incur a fee of $5 per 5 minutes.

Cancellations, No-Shows & Unconfirmed Appointments

Because appointment times are limited and reserved specifically for each dog, short-notice cancellations or unconfirmed spots make it nearly impossible to fill empty schedule gaps.

  • Confirmation Texts: A confirmation text is sent 3 days prior to your scheduled appointment. Please reply to confirm so we know your pup is still coming!

  • Unconfirmed Spots: Appointments that remain unconfirmed 24 hours prior to the start time may be automatically cancelled and offered to clients on our waitlist.

  • 48+ Hours' Notice: No fee! We are happy to reschedule your appointment.

  • 48 to 24 Hours' Notice: Cancellations made within this window are subject to a 50% fee of the scheduled groom cost.

  • Less than 24 Hours' Notice & No-Shows: Cancellations made under 24 hours or missed appointments (no-shows) are subject to a 100% fee of the scheduled groom cost.

  • Rebooking: All cancellation and no-show fees must be paid in full before any future appointments can be scheduled. New clients who no-show or fail to confirm may not be rebooked.

Sick & Injured Pets

The health and comfort of your pup (and all other pets in our care) is our top priority. If your dog arrives feeling under the weather (vomiting, coughing, diarrhea, eye issues, limping, lethargy, etc.), they will be sent home to rest.

Because your 1-on-1 time block was locked in for your pet and cannot be refilled upon arrival, our standard cancellation policy applies (100% of the scheduled groom cost for less than 24 hours' notice).

If you notice your dog isn't feeling well ahead of time, please text us as early as possible so we can help you reschedule before the 24-hour window!

Health, Safety & Fleas

  • Medical Disclosures: Please inform us prior to your appointment if your dog has any pre-existing medical conditions, physical limitations (such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, or recent surgeries), skin allergies, or heart conditions. Knowing this ahead of time allows us to tailor our setup, use specialized products, and take extra care to keep your pup safe and comfortable.

  • Flea & Tick Policy: To maintain a clean, parasite-free environment for every pet, if fleas or ticks are discovered on your dog during their appointment, a mandatory $25 Flea Bath & Sanitization Fee will automatically be added to your bill. This covers the required treatment bath for immediate relief, as well as the deep sanitization required to keep the salon safe and spotless

  • Pre-Existing Skin Conditions: Grooming can sometimes uncover pre-existing skin issues, hot spots, or irritations that were previously hidden under thick fur or matting. We will always notify you right away at pick-up if we spot any health concerns during their spa day!

Aggression, Reactivity, Stress & Anxiety

  • Gentle 1-on-1 Care: Every dog experiences grooming differently, and our goal is always to make each pup feel safe, calm, and supported. Some dogs may become nervous, overwhelmed, or reactive during certain parts of the groom (such as nail trims or the high-velocity dryer) — and that is completely okay! We routinely use gentle handling, positive reinforcement, and frequent breaks to help them settle.

  • Safety & Comfort Limits: For the safety of both your pup and the groomer, if a dog becomes extremely stressed, severe, or shows signs that they feel unsafe (growling, snapping, panic, shutting down, or biting), we may need to pause or stop the groom. This is never a punishment — it simply means your pup has reached their emotional or physical limit for the day, and we will never force a dog past their safety threshold

  • Service Charges & Next Steps: If a groom must be stopped early due to safety or severe anxiety, you will be charged for the services completed up to that point. We will work together on a modified plan moving forward, such as shorter "happy visits," slower introductions, or home handling exercises to help them build confidence for future visits!

Matting

  • Comfort First: Matting is more than cosmetic — mats pull tightly on the skin, trap moisture, restrict airflow, and can conceal underlying skin infections or irritations. We strictly practice "humanity over vanity" to prioritize your dog's physical comfort and safety above all else.

  • Severe Matting Policy: Brushing out severe matting is painful, dangerous, and causes undue stress to your pet. If a coat is severely matted, the kindest and safest solution is a short haircut to safely shave away the tight mats and give their skin a fresh start.

  • Time-Based Pricing: Because we run dedicated 1-on-1 appointments, our salon pricing is based on the time required to complete the groom. Extra time needed for delicate dematting or careful matted coat removal will be billed at our standard time rate.

  • Regrowth Plan: At pick-up, we are always happy to discuss home brushing routines, specialized tools, and a regular grooming schedule to help you maintain a longer, fluffy coat safely moving forward!

Double Coated Dogs

  • Natural Coat Function: Breeds with double coats (such as Huskies, Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Pomeranians, and Great Pyrenees) have specialized fur designed to insulate them from both cold and heat, as well as protect their skin from outdoor elements.

  • Risks of Shaving: Shaving a double coat can permanently damage the coat texture, cause patchy regrowth, alter their natural body temperature regulation, and increase risks for sunburn and skin conditions. Deshedding treatments and regular coat maintenance are always our recommended approach.

  • Mandatory Waiver Required: If a full shave-down is specifically requested for a double-coated dog, an additional Double Coat Waiver must be reviewed and signed at the appointment acknowledging these risks before any clipping begins.

Emergency Authorization

  • Immediate Care: The safety and well-being of your pet is always our highest priority. In the rare event of a medical emergency during their visit, we will immediately attempt to contact you using the phone number on file.

  • Veterinary Permission: If emergency medical attention is needed and we are unable to reach you right away, you authorize Tailored Tails Salon to seek immediate care from a licensed veterinarian at your expense to ensure your pup gets the swift medical attention they need.

Payments

  • Due at Time of Service: Payment is due in full at the time of pick-up — no exceptions. Services will not be rendered on credit or billed for later payment.
  • Accepted Forms: We accept cash, major credit/debit cards, and contactless tap payments.
  • Final Sale: Due to the custom, hands-on labor required for pet grooming, all sales are final.
